Broker's Continuing Education Requirements

Initial Four-Year Renewal

All broker renewal applicants must complete forty-five clock hours of approved continuing education courses within the four-year period preceding license renewal.  This must include:

  • Five three-hour courses in Agency, Ethics, Fair Housing, Trust Fund Handling, & Risk Management.
  • Eighteen hours in the category of Consumer Protection. 
  • The remaining hours may be in the Consumer Protection or Consumer Service category.


Subsequent Renewals (Every Four Years Thereafter)

All broker renewal applicants who have a four-year license must complete forty-five clock hours of approved continuing education courses within the four-year period preceding their license renewal.  This must include:

  • Minimum six-hour Combined Survey Course.
  • A three-hour course in Risk Management.
  • Eighteen hours in the category of Consumer Protection.
  • The remaining hours may be in the Consumer Protection or Consumer Service category.

Note:  The minimum six-hour Combined Survey Course can be replaced by the three-hour courses in Agency, Ethics, Fair Housing, & Trust Funds.  This exceeds the minimum.


Late Renewal - A real estate licensee who fails to renew his license prior to the expiration date may renew it within two years after the expiration date.  The licensee must meet the continuing education requirements and pay a late renewal fee.
